The owner is ridiculous. No doubt this will have a negative impact. I would suggests he issue not just an apology but offer something that may help himself and his reputation.

The sound of business going under …. I truly hope the owner learns an important lesson …. called Business 101. I do not for one minute believe his "tongue in cheek" thing and will purposefully avoid this establishment.

I personally (honestly) had a horrible experience with this hotel three years ago. My friend and I both tried to leave negative reviews on tripadvisor and for reasons I never understood, they were never published. Not only did we have a bad experience with the hotel, but we had a bad experience with the owner, who threatened to sue us for complaining and threatened to have us blacklisted from all hotels in the area. He was horrible.
This is a true incident, not a pile on to a news story, feel free to email me with any specific questions.

"The policy regarding wedding fines was put on our site as a tongue-in-cheek response to a wedding many years ago. It was meant to be taken down long ago and certainly was never enforced."

that's tough to swallow when you consider they threatened to fine a wedding party less than a year ago...
